Hi there. Looking for proffit in this nice table game, i want to ask if there is any simulation or calculation for this variant, to know if the house edge could be minimize to zero or be finally an ev+ game.
This variant allow to discard 1 hand card, buy 1 card at the ante price, and still fold if there is no possible play. F. E. : looking for straight or flush and no complete it.
So, the worst scenario in this variant is to loose 2 antes and 1 bet. For exemple with a pair of 2 usually i buy 1 card looking for trips or DP, or in any situation that the hole dealer's card is bigger than my pair. If i got a pair of 6 and hole card is 5 or less, i play directly whit no buying a card.
I hope to understand my question. My english is poor, i know. Thanks mates!!

Caribbean Stud Poker became popular originally on various casino-friendly Caribbean island, hence the name, and then it became popular on ships where gambling was allowed. It has since spread to mainstream casinos in destinations like Las Vegas, Reno, Atlantic City, and others, and it’s continued to grow popular since its introduction.

  1. They play Caribbean Stud Poker, similar to the casino game Let It Ride, on a Black Jack size table using standard Poker combinations to decide winning hands. Each player places an ante and then the dealer deals players five cards face down, one of the dealer’s cards is face up.

I read the Wizard's Ocean caribbean description and strategies. Finally, it says 'The lower right cell shows a house edge of 1.04%.
After possibly switching and raising, the average final bet, including the switching fee, will be 2.183772 units. The element of risk is thus 0.475%. On average the player will switch 8.4% of the time.'
Honestly, can't get it. Is it proffitable or not? 🤔

Thanks for this post from:
It is not profitable.
(If it were, no casino would offer it.)
Half a percent element of risk is comparable to Blackjack. Variance is higher, though, which in my opinion is good since we look for a positive result.
Higher variance and higher min bet (3 x ante) means you need a deeper bankroll and a resistance to losses in waiting for the occasional positive surge.

Résistance to losses also means refraining from buying when you get a bad hand.
Your examples show bad decision: the price of buying is too high for the expected reward. Just accept a small pair, and wait for a next hand to be better.

As you have noticed, the version of Carribean Stud that you describe is a variant of Oasis Poker.
Of course, there are many instances in which discarding one card and buying a second card is profitable for the player. Leading examples are when you have four cards to an open-ended straight or flush (or both).
So many better men, a few of them friends, were dead. And a thousand thousand slimy things lived on, and so did I.

Having a small pair and buying one for DP or trips duplicates and triplicates the bet reward, this is an important point. If dealer wont opens, the ev becomes to zero. However, if i think this game as you say in casino's edge, then i must resign and no play it at all.
The only proffitable game of this kind, then, is NLTH agains other players. And also, that one got his own rules, risks, and ev variants.
What a thing, gambling...

Caribbean Stud Poker, at sportbookcasinos.com, we appreciate a good back-story on how and why a particular poker variation was born. Caribbean Stud has us stumped. There are too many tales of its origin. One is that it was invented three centuries ago in Spain, the other that it was first played on a Caribbean Cruise ship in Aruba, another speaks of some money being borrowed in Las Vegas just over 30 years ago.

One fact that’s for sure is that the original game had a pretty high house edge (usually above 5%). To counter that, the game expanded with the addition of a Progressive pot. Today, it is one of the most played poker variants in the world.

How To Play Caribbean Stud Poker Online

This table game is a match-up between you and the dealer. So, if you feel you don’t need all that bluffing and intimidation from other players, this one is for you.

Table Layout

The table/screen layout is straightforward. There is a placing spot (either a square or circle) where you place your ante (your initial bet). The casino you are playing at will indicate the minimum and maximum bets.

At some USA Online casinos, you will see a placing spot for your bet into the Progressive Jackpot as well (also called a side bet). Then you will find buttons to deal, raise or bet and a button for folding. In front of you will be five placing spots, and the dealer will have 5 placing spots.

The jackpot paytable will also be displayed for you and even the different chip values you may choose from.

Online Caribbean Stud Play

Place your ante according to the casino’s betting rules. If you are still new at the game, we suggest you start with games that have lower minimums. Press the Deal or Bet button. The dealer will now issue cards as follows: 5x cards to you (which only you can see and one that the dealer can see) and 4x face-down cards and 1x face-up card for the dealer.

Remember, you are only playing against the dealer in this casino game. Depending on the cards dealt to you and the dealers’ one card visible to you, you should decide whether you are going to bet/raise to see the dealers’ cards or whether you want to fold your hand.

Should you decide to play your hand, your bet must be at least double the amount that your ante was. Once you have clicked to play, the dealer will show his cards. The regular poker hand rankings apply. But here is the kicker. The dealer’s hand is only eligible if it contains an Ace/King or better.

Caribbean Stud: Win Or Lose

If the dealer’s hand is eligible and his hand ranks higher, then you lose your ante and your bet. When the dealer’s hand is not qualified, then you get your ante back. If the dealer’s hand is eligible and your hand ranks higher, then you get your ante, bet, and the wins according to the payout chart. This chart or table will be visible on the table and is usually paid as follows:

  • Royal Flush – 110:1
  • Straight Flush – 50:1
  • Four of a Kind – 20:1
  • Full House – 7:1
  • Flush – 5:1
  • Straight – 4:1
  • Three of a Kind – 3:1
  • Two Pair – 2:1
  • One pair or Ace/King High – 1:1

Caribbean Stud Progressive Pot

The Progressive is where you can win the big bucks! You should place your chip in the placing spot for the progressive jackpot before the dealer calls for the close of betting. Not all casino’s Caribbean Stud jackpots are the same, and it is also not similar for all countries. Still, in general, the payouts are as below. Check the winnings schedule at the casino you are playing at before playing for real money.

  • Royal Flush: 100% of Progressive Jackpot
  • Straight Flush: 10% of Progressive Jackpot
  • Four of a Kind: $100
  • Full House: $75
  • Flush: $50

Caribbean Stud Hand Rankings

Before you play this variation of poker, you should know the rules of the game as well as the general poker hand rankings. We have summarized them for you below from the highest (the ever-elusive Royal Flush) to the lowest ranking.

Your own classification as a player should always be your first consideration when you decide on whether to hold or fold. Acknowledge what you are; if you are still a rookie, then please don’t go for the higher rankings; instead, focus on trying to get a full house or three of a kind. If you are a veteran and high-roller, then go for the top prize!

  • Royal Flush – 5 cards of the same suit from 10 to Ace
  • Straight Flush – 4 cards of the same suit in a sequential order
  • Four of a Kind – 4 equally ranking cards
  • Full House – 3 cards with equal value plus 2 cards with the same value or ranking
  • Flush – 5 cards which carry the same suit and they do not have to be sequential
  • Straight – 5 cards in sequence but they don’t have to have the same suit
  • Three of a Kind – 3 cards of the same ranking in your hand
  • Two Pair – 2 sets of 2 cards of the same ranking in your hand
  • One pair or Ace/King High – 1 set of 2 cards of the same ranking or a high card that is a King or Ace.

Tips To Win Big Playing Caribbean Stud

Learn the game by playing it in ‘demo’ mode first. Many online casinos offer that option. During the demo mode, you can familiarize yourself with the table and the mechanics of the game. The online casinos permit anybody to try out the games without having to register as a player.

If you are a newbie, pick a table with the minimum and maximum bet limit, so that you restrict the risk of losing your money. Always resume play if you have a ‘pair’ in your hand. Don’t underestimate the modest ‘pair.’
Shop around for an excellent progressive pot that will enhance your chances of winning a percentage of the jackpot. We suggest that you play at those casinos that have at least 6-figure progressives to offer.

Lastly, don’t shy away from folding. If you have a lousy hand, throw in the towel and try again in the next round.

If your dealer’s face-up card is a King or Ace and you have either a Queen/King/Ace or a Jack/King/Ace combo in your hand, then you should consider raising. In effect, you are now blacking a possible high card ‘pair’ for the dealer, and the highest he can get is an Ace/King ranking.
